I doubt that people believe anything without some kind of evidence. What they consider adequate evidence is another matter and can be quite personal. If I enter a dodgy location and the hairs on the back of my neck stand up then I'll believe I'm in danger. If I survey all I have received - the world, the universe, the many loving people, every little thing I didn't make, including my very self, then, based on that evidence I will make a wild leap and choose to believe there is a power at work greater than my comprehension to whom I owe, at the very least, my everlasting thanks.
