Everyone has a god in their life whether they know it or not, be it money, power, status, love, pleasure, security - whatever they will sacrifice anything else for - either that or they'll aimlessly flit from one thing to another and never be satisfied. The advantage to having God as your god is that you now have a loving Father, supportive Church and everyone as your brother or sister - among other things.

You don't decide if God is in your life or not - he most certainly is! He is patiently quietly waiting for you to discover him, acknowledge him, and to learn about how to achieve true happiness both in this life and hereafter. No one and nothing else can give what God gives. I would say that's pretty important.
