Should living on and using land, even for millennia, constitute ownership?

I believe land, and all of nature, was created by God for all of humanity. I do not understand what gives an exclusive and perpetual right of ownership and control of land to anyone or any people. Preventing the use of empty land needed for the welfare of people is wrong, whether by aboriginals who hunted on it or by landlords with deeds of ownership. Anyone using land or nature should pay to the community (which alone gives land its value) appropriately for that privilege.
